This course "Written Expression for First-Year LMD classes" is designed to enhance students'

writing, an indispensable skill for tackling diverse assignments across various courses. Students

will acquire the necessary skills to write well-structured and coherent paragraphs. This includes

Analyzing the components and organization of a paragraph and identify the topic sentence, sup-

porting sentences, and the concluding sentence. Evaluate and differentiate between various types

of paragraphs.

Additionally, the course exposes students to a range of writing genres, mastering essential

writing techniques and mechanisms crucial for their academic pursuits and future professional

endeavors. By engaging in intensive practices inside and outside the classroom, students will

develop the essential mechanics required to excel in crafting effective paragraphs.

Leraning Objectives

This course aims to help students:

- Approach comprehension and written expression in the language of study, so that the student

will be able to produce a coherent text.

- Allow the student to develop his textual, meta-textual and linguistic knowledge by reading all

types of texts to produce them subsequently.

- Install / develop reading and writing skills (and strategies).

- Know how to identify the literal and inferential meaning

-Observe appropriate writing mechanics, grammar, spelling, etc.

- Use different writing tools for a proper integration of various reading materials

- Students will be able to start the process of writing based on planning and outlining, drafting,

revising and editing and writing a final copy in a clearly structured, logical sequence.

- Produce pieces of different writing genres taking into consideration purpose and audience while

using different materials.
